The Great Grave Yard Devil

           In Sri lankan culture there are many aspects.Among those, beliefs are take precedence.In this beliefs there are many deities and devils. Mahasona the grave yard devil is one of the main devil kings in Sri Lanka. 
                           According to Sri Lankan mythology. Mahasona the grave yard devil's parents are Somanethra Rusi of Ritigala mountain and gajakumbhakari. Some of the ritual poems say's that this demon was born in Polonnaru kingdom in the era of king Prakramabahu. And as further stated this devil's born astrology time is sunday  ada nekatha. The way this devil was born is unusual,he was born fleeing his mother's heart. 

                         "පැරකුම්බා රජුන්             පෙර 
                          රජකර පොළොන්නරු       පුර 
                          කුඹල් ගෙයි                 එනුවර
                          උපන් කුමරෙකි ඉතා      රූබර"

                           "පැවති පුර නම් පවර 
                           ගජ කුම්බ කාරිගේ 
                           කුසය පිළිසිඳ රඟේ 
                          දිනෙන් දින පසුව ගොස් 

                         රිවි දිනේ අද නැකැත 
                         ලත් තැනදී මව්හෙළය
                         පලාගෙන බිහිවෙමින 
                         ජය සොහොන් යන නමින්"  

                            And some of the stories also state,"Nandhimithra" a major giant of the Ten Great Giants of king Dutugamunu. One day after victory of the great battle of Vigithapura,in Nandimithra's house they held a big party to celebrate the victory. To nandhimithra's house in a nearby area there was a place called Ritigala. In Ritigala there was a regional leader called Jayasena,he is a member of Yaksha tribe. This Jayasena had some supernatural powers. When he passing through the party, he saw a beautiful women, the wife of Nandhimithra. After seen her,he had a crush on her.And he was obsessed with her by his power. Nandhimithra was angry at what Jayasena had done to his wife. Nandimithra invited Jayasena to a duel. Jayasena was defeated in the duel and died. After the death of Jayasena he was reborn as terribly cruel devil called Mahasona The Great Grave Yard Devil. 
                               In describing Mahason's appearance,with a bear face and a furry body climbs onto a pig carries a spear in one hand and an elephant in the other. This devil is as high as a big mountain.

                     It is believed that this devil causes many illnesses. Intimidation,fever,headache,severe cough,joint pain,anorexia are some of them. Doing rituals are essential to cure these illnesses. There are some rituals that peculiar this demon.

                                                            mahason baliya.

                            The above are some of them.There are many dark magics that can be done by the help of this devil. These dark magics are very powerful that cannot be easily undone. If someone fall victim to such a dark spell, he or she should seek  the help of a master witcher.
                              This concept has become a major cultural feature in Sri lanka.

                        The Blood Devil                                      T he blood devil or the RIRI YAKA  is one of the great devils in Sri Lanka. In Sri Lankan Demonology this devil plays a main role. This devil is very famous, among Sri Lankans.
